Chris grew up on the Big Island. He started his journey towards being fit at a clinically-obese weight of 230 lbs. In terms of losing weight, he found “It’s actually pretty easy once you know the right things to do. Most people need to see fast improvement in order to stay motivated. I wasn’t any different. When I’d go back to the Big Island, none of my friends could believe their eyes! I loved it!”
After a catastrophic motorcycle crash, Chris had to relearn how to walk, write and deal with the new challenges of a body with physical limitations. “Not being able to use my right arm has definitely presented its share of challenges. I’ve changed a lot about my approach; not just in training clients, but in the way I live life. As far as work goes, it’s definitely made me more creative. I’m a better trainer now than I have ever been before, and I will never stop trying to improve. I am so happy with life. Every moment is a blessing.”
Blake feels “The best part of working at Fitness Ranes is I get to work with a wide variety of people, from professional athletes to sedentary people who’ve never worked out in their whole life. It just brings joy to me to help make a change in people’s lives, to help them improve their lives.”
#1 cheat meal is burgers. He loves Teddy’s Bigger Burgers. It’s his go-to, but still makes sure it is high in protein!
Blake is a competitive raw powerlifter with a nearly 300 lb bench press, +400 lb squat & +500 lb deadlift. Deadlift is his favorite exercise. He says “If you need to lose weight, deadlifting helps; if you want to get stronger, deadlifting helps. If you want to be awesome deadlifting helps.”
Growing up (and still living) just a few blocks from Fitness Ranes, Blake attended Roosevelt High School.
How Jesse got started: I’ve always loved fitness. Just started out with me wanting to build my body and as I started to do that and started to see results in myself, I started wanting to help others. And as that progressed, I started to take it a little bit more seriously. And once I came here, Chris was able to teach me a lot of new things that I’ve never experienced before.
Whenever Jesse’s not in the gym, he tries to dedicate at least a few hours a day studying different coaches, getting new training ideas, and learning new ways to help clients.
Jesse has found that working at Fitness Ranes is different from other gyms, primarily because of the culture that Chris has been able to create here. Jesse feels that the clients are not so much like clients as they are friends, and the group class is like a big family.
Devin chose fitness training as a career because moving has always captivated him, the science behind it and how the body works. He stresses technique more than anything else. If you’re practicing the wrong thing, you’re going to get bad results. So he always focuses on technique, and increasing everything else from there.
Devin’s feeling about the client relationship: I think my clients come in, they feel better about themselves, they feel better about their lives, and just moving forward in their lives knowing they can accomplish what they set out to do. I am very passionate about what I do. I care about people, I want people to know that I care about them. I’m not just here to get them to their results, I’m here for them.
Some of Devin’s favorite sports to do are wrestling, jiu jitsu, muay thai, Olympic lifting, and gymnastics.
