I already have a gym membership at 24-hour Fitness and had it for the last 13 years. I haven’t gone in the last couple of years but still keep the membership because I got it so cheap way back when. Overall, I wasn’t feeling good about myself and nearing 50 years old, could feel my health slipping with time. My journey with Fitness Ranes began by scheduling a free consultation. Chris Ranes was cool, showed me around the studio, and we talked about fitness goals, training approach, nutrition, etc. My first session was 5:30 a.m. Monday, March 5th. It was drizzling, cold and dark. I wished that I was still in my warm and cozy bed.
Tomorrow marks the completion of 14 weeks of training. I’ve lost 38 pounds in the three and half months of training at the studio. My pant waist size has dropped from a snug 36 to a loose 32. I had my checkup with my doctor this week; she nearly fell off her chair when she saw me and was amazed at my weight loss. My blood work came back excellent and she was impressed with how healthy I looked.
I owe everything to the team at Fitness Ranes. The training has been awesome. My trainer has balanced conditioning, strength, and flexibility into a routine that has produced results that sometimes, it’s hard for even me to believe.

Update: Today is my 50th birthday and I stopped by the training studio to do an official birthday weigh in. Since my first review about 6 weeks ago (which for some reason has been filtered by YELP), I’ve lost an additional 8.5 pounds. I started this journey in March at 232 pounds and now weigh 187 pounds. I’ve gained muscle mass in the process and I’m still amazed at how much fat I’ve lost and how much my appearance has changed.
Training continues to be awesome and positive. Training has included stretching, weights, circuits, plyometrics, etc. The routine is consistent yet changes so it never gets stale. If you are ready to do something different for yourself, contact Chris.

I would never leave Fitness Ranes if I didn’t have to. Before I unplug my computer and finish packing to move for college, I had to express how people here have changed my life in ways I never thought possible and never will forget.
For nearly 5 months I trained 5 days a week at Fitness Ranes. I went from just over 300 pounds to 230, and went from wearing 3x to 1x/xl. I eventually started to feel happy when I looked in the mirror which I haven’t been able to do since elementary school. I started to go outside the house more, when before I started training I could have counted the times I went outside of the house since 2009 on one hand. I went clothes shopping just this past week after wearing the same clothes throughout high school because I use to think everything would look terrible on me no matter what. I made some great friends whom I know genuinely care about me, as I do them.
I’m not where I want to be right now and I wish I had more time with them, but I know I’m doing a great job on that path with huge thanks to the trainers at Fitness Ranes. They really know what they are doing, and they cared a lot which made it a million & one times better. I wasn’t just a person paying money for guidance, I was a friend with a goal that they wanted to help, using any means necessary.
My trainer knew what was going on in my life aside from what I was eating and if I was exercising on my own. In turn, I got to know what was going on in his life. I was upset with my progress one time and even though he’s not my regular trainer, Chris called to check on me to explain that my weight loss was normal and I was still on track, doing a good job. Chris took me to see the Avengers (he even drove me there & back!), and I could hear Reno cheer at every bada$$ scene. Tonight, I went to Dave & Buster’s with Reno and it was the most fun I’ve had outside of the house in a very long time. Even when I move, they want to answer any questions I might have. Reno already went through how I can work out on my own and still eat healthy with a busy schedule.
These guys have helped me tremendously and I have absolutely no doubt they could help anyone with fitness-related goals. They have a lot of knowledge of fitness, great philosophies (in my opinion), and amazing hearts. If you’re considering working with a trainer, I can’t imagine who could be better than these guys because I know I’ve never been so happy with myself as I am now.
I’ve worked with several (even more costly) trainers on the mainland and Chris by far blows them all away. He has a very friendly studio and genuine results-oriented mindset. He works to invest you in each exercise so you know their purpose. And he tailors each day’s routine based on your body’s response to prior sessions. You will definitely feel and see progress if you hand yourself over to this awesome trainer.
Well, it’s been a month and I can see/feel an improvement! Not only am I more thoughtful about what I eat, I am actually eating healthier! Seriously, I can see and feel that my clothes fit better and I do feel better.. Chris continues to be a great trainer, working me hard and is also very encouraging… Wish I’d found him earlier…When I went looking for a personal trainer, I wanted someone who didn’t promise result.. but someone who delivered results. I looked at many reviews and decided on Chris Ranes. All you have to do is look at his website and see the great before/after photos of real people. In addition, you can read his own personal story.
I went in for the free evaluation and immediately knew that Chris is the guy. He is personable and easy to talk to, intelligent and kind. We spent the 1st session just going through evaluation and setting expectations. Makes sense, ya… Next session seemed “easy”… almost too easy, but I can tell you that I know I had a workout. I can feel it in my body already and am looking forward to the next session.

Update 1: Lots of good news! Lost about 4 pounds.. but what’s even better is my cholesterol level dropped 38 points!!! Chris is so good at making training fun and interesting.. every time I go, it’s something different and it all feels great! He is such a positive person.. Thank you Chris!
Update 2: Missed some sessions due to vacation and the holidays, but here I am 23 sessions later (about 8 weeks in) & 14 lbs lighter.. feeling good with lots of energy & stamina! Fitting into clothes I thought were gone forever!

Update 3: Chris continues to be a 5 * trainer… As of January, I’ve lost 20 lbs.. healthy loss and much needed.. I am toned and feeling really fit and strong. I can now fit those cute dresses, pants and tops!
Chris is the kind of trainer you want. He doesn’t just stick you on a machine and leave you there. He is with you every minute of your session and is able to change it up all the time.. so that you get the best workout for your body.
Okay, those before & after pics make me want to cry. I am so grateful for you guys because I know that the girl I used to be 3 months ago.. she hated herself. I mean a part of me will always feel fat because of the pics I posted in my fat album (who I used to be), but I have better self confidence now and I got further with you guys than I ever could on my own. It’s scary to think that I could be that fat person again, and training with you guys was like a security blanket, telling me that I would never have to see that person in the mirror ever again. I never pictured myself hiring a trainer. After the introductory session, we met 3 times the first week. I enjoyed training with him so much after that first week, I decided to train with him 5 days a week for the next 9 weeks until I had to go back to the mainland.I am 37 and have been in and out of gyms for the better part of 20 years now. I thought I knew everything there was to know about exercise. Chris has helped with my diet, proper foods, portion sizing for desired results, resistance training, mechanics of body parts, stopping bad lifting habits, and supplements – all customized for my goals. I’m almost embarrassed to say this but I’ve seen more results in two months of working out with Chris than I’ve got in 20 years of doing it by myself. Through out the last year I have personally gone through many stages of health and fitness. With little to no effort I have been in decent shape my whole life, mostly due to being involved in dance. Once I graduated college and stopped dancing competitively a year ago, my bad college eating habits finally started catching up to me. After a year of being fairly inactive and feeling unmotivated my weight rose and my heath declined not to mention my self image and confidence had fallen greatly. I couldn’t believe how unhealthy and not sexy I felt for being a 23 year old woman. I “looked” for six months at gyms and possible places to turn my habits around but kept finding excuses not to join or get started. I found myself believing “What’s the point? Am I even going to see results?”After meeting Chris and discussing my personal goals, his knowledge and enthusiasm convinced me to sign up. I am one of those people that needed the assistance of a qualified trainerlike Chris to show me the correct and most effective exercises to achieve my personal goal. I have gained so much confidence in my ability to successfully work out that I feel I have established a life habit. I know that if I had simply joined a gym and tried to work out on my own, that I would have soon felt discouraged and would probably see little results. I truly believe that the most difficult part about working out is believing that what you are doing is correct and that with a bit of consistency you will see results.
With the right amount of push and a little bit of give, Chris guided me to a more successful eating habit as well as regular exercise. He regularly rotates the exercises to keep them interesting and challenging, and he never puts you in a position where you can not succeed. There were some challenging days in the beginning as I learned how to work out correctly and start my body on a healthy track. Now days, I look forward to the gym and enjoy feeling successful as I feel and look better. Others have commented on the changes they see, and I know that what I’m doing for myself is setting me up for life.
Thanks to Chris, I know I can look and feel exactly like I want to. It’s all up to me. Though it may seem tough in the beginning to get started and stick to it, whether it’s a few weeks or months down the road, just remember you’ll feel better and look better than you do right now. And who doesn’t want to look and feel better?!
